Malcolm and Julie wanted a versatile garden that would grow with their new family – somewhere where they could relax among some Aussie natives, and area to entertain, a lawn for the kids and an area to grow veggies and fruit.
The garden itself is ‘C’ shaped around the retreat annex separated from the house, and whilst not a conventional shape it allowed the garden to be divided into 3 separate zones – a native ‘adult’ garden with a sun deck, a lawn area for their 2 children to play and the remainder for veggie patches and citrus trees.
A water tank was installed to store Adelaide’s limited rainfall however the native plantings were selected not only for their natural beauty but also their suitability to Adelaide’s more mediteranean climate, with both local species and that of WA and the more drought tolerant plants of NSW.
A circular outdoor lounge and umbrella provide much needed shade to relax and enjoy their new surroundings.
