A wide terrace overlooking the water with neat, formal boundaries and cottage garden beds were created to remind Pat and Elizabeth of their previous home in country NSW whilst enjoying the spoils and convenience of their Drummoyne apartment.
Elizabeth and Pat downsized from their gorgeous NSW country home to their fabulous apartment in Drummoyne but found the wide terrace uninspiring. The brief was to design a functional space that allowed for seasonal, colourful plantings that Elizabeth could enjoy tending to whilst not distracting from the fantastic harbour views.
We used beautiful slate troughs and ceramic hanging pots to subtley define 3 zones – a large entertaining and dining area with an electronic awning, a colour bound, more intimate seating area for the two of them to relax in together, and a small herb garden visible only from the kitchen.
Clipped buxus frames the boundaries ensuring the view remains uninterrupted and a pink Crepe Myrtle will be provide gentle screening of the adjacent units, along with Chilean Jasmine adorned trellis. The feedback from Pat and Elizabeth has been fantastic: ‘We now have new ‘rooms’ to our apartment to enjoy and spend so much more time on the terrace than we used to, and have received lots of lovely comments from our family and friends.’
We couldn’t have asked for more than that…
